The original church was demolished in 1650 and rebuilt from 1772. It had a rectangular plan, a low bell tower and no choir. The Count Giuseppe Provana gave the necessary money to build the choir and two side wings, so that the plan of the church became a Latin cross. At present the church is aisless and has four side chapels.
